Under the auspices of Lok Virsa (National Institute of Folk & Traditional Heritage), the members of Harvard Club of Pakistan (HCP) and their families/friends attended a musical concert on Sunday, 15 October 2017, and were entertained by the famous songs of legendary Reshman in the melodious voice of her daughter Ruby Reshman.
The concert coincided with the opening of a newly renovated rooftop theatre at Lok Virsa which has been renamed after Bali Jatti - a famous folk performer from the province of the Punjab.
Dr Fouzia Saeed, Executive Director of Lok Virsa, welcomed the audience and briefly spoke about Bali Jatti as well as the folk heritage of Rajasthan, to which the legendary Reshman belonged. The compere, Samar Minallah, introduced the singer Ruby Reshman and conducted the program. The famous songs of Reshman were beautifully rendered by Ruby Reshman interspersed with brief chats with the singer about her own artistic journey and memories of her matriarch Reshman. Video clip from one of Reshman's past interviews was also shown which refreshed the memories of the audience about this great legend of folk and classical music.
Renowned literary figure Kishwar Naheed was invited as a guest of honour and HCP members took the opportunity to take pictures with her.
Some of the guests with whom HCP members had interaction were from the diplomatic corps including the Austrian and Dutch Ambassadors to Pakistan and the UN Resident Coordinator.
The event was also streamed live on Lok Virsa's website lokvirsa.org.pk
HCP is particularly thankful to Dr Fouzia Saeed, Executive Director of Lok Virsa, who pursuant to an understanding reached between HCP and Lok Virsa, invited HCP members alongwith families and friends to this evening of sweet melodies.
She has also very kindly agreed to hold an exclusive event for HCP members early November. Invite shall be issued for the same in due course.
